Offered on a case-by-case basis depending on scope and schedule.
A detailed painting estimate should clearly spell out what’s included, what is not, how the work will be completed, and what level of prep is expected before any paint is applied. That includes the surfaces being painted, repair/prep work, product details, and any project-specific notes that help eliminate assumptions.
A good estimate should leave very little open to interpretation so you know exactly what you are agreeing to before the project begins.
Most painting projects get stressful when the plan is vague, scope isn’t defined, prep isn’t clear, and scheduling becomes guesswork.
Our approach is designed to prevent that. We start with a walkthrough, define the scope in detail, confirm scheduling and logistics, then keep communication consistent through the final walkthrough.

Interior painting isn’t just “pick a color and roll it on.” The finish lives or dies in the details most people never hear about. For example, “paint // primer all-in-one” is usually just better coverage, not a replacement for true primers. A real primer will fix specific surface problems like bonding, sealing bare drywall/wood, blocking stains, or preventing tannin bleed. We treat priming as a separate, intentional step when it’s needed.
We also help you choose the right wall sheen for their lighting and wall condition, and we use dedicated trim enamels (not wall paint) on baseboards, doors, and casings because trim takes more abuse and needs a harder, more durable finish. If you want the deeper breakdown, see our interior house painting services.
Exterior painting isn’t just about color, the product system and application method matter more than most homeowners realize. A lot of people assume oil-based products are automatically “better,” but modern water-based paints and primers often outperform oil in common residential situations. Oil still has a place, but it’s typically a deliberate problem-solver, not a default.
On wood siding (especially cedar), solid stain and flat paint can look nearly identical once applied. The real difference is how the coating behaves with moisture and seasonal movement, which affects long-term maintenance. And when we say two coats, we mean two separate applications at proper thickness with drying time in between (not one heavy coat or a quick crosshatch).
Even spraying fits that same theme. A sprayer is just a tool, on porous surfaces it still needs back-brushing/back-rolling to work paint into the substrate for consistent coverage and adhesion. If you want the deeper breakdown, see our exterior home painting services.
Most frustration comes from vague scope, inconsistent communication, and crews that feel unmanaged. Empire is owner-operated, system-driven, and connected to the painting industry through PCA membership, events, and coaching so projects run with clearer standards and fewer surprises. You’ll see it in the way the estimate is written, how expectations are set, and how the job is managed day-to-day.
